All of the sizes below are “retained on”, meaning the shellfish are sieved on the screen size listed below. The shellfish will be larger than the size listed below, and they will retain on that size screen. We always recommend you put your shellfish in gear at least one mesh size smaller than the size you are purchasing to avoid any falling through or growing into your gear.
Bay Scallops
SBSC bay scallop broodstock has been selected for growth, meat yield and coloration from several generations of our production. Native stock is regularly introduced from native Cape Cod bay scallop populations.

Eastern oysters
SBSC oyster broodstock has been selected from disease resistant lines developed over decades of to have increased protection from Dermo, MSX and SSO. The oysters are then crossed with Massachusetts aquaculture raised stock, and the seed is ideal for mid to high salinity (>25ppt).

Hard clams
SBSC hard clam broodstock are native Cape Cod quahogs, selected from Falmouth wild stock. These animals are tested to be from from QPX prior to shipment, and broodstock are selected and maintained in areas free of neoplasia.

For 2025 seed orders, a deposit is not required, just a notification to the hatchery of your order so we can plan production. Please fill out the form below, or email the hatchery at info@scallopbayshellfish.com to inquire about availability or place an order. All orders are filled on a first come, first served basis. Once you place an order, your place in line is held, and if you would like to add to that order in the future, that portion of your order goes to the end of the line. Please notify us of any cancellations, and we will stay in touch with you throughout the spring about the status of our production.
Minimum order 25,000 of any species.
We produce high quality bay scallop, eastern oyster and hard clam seed at our facility in Pocasset, Masscahusetts on Cape Cod. The hatchery was completed in March 2023, and seed of all three species was first produced that spring.
State of the art shellfish hatchery
We are dedicated to quality output and constant innovation. Our facility contains the equipment to filter all incoming water to 1 micron, followed by UV filtration for optimal biosecurity. With the systems for all stages of broodstock, larval, setting and postset shellfish, seed production is consistent and biosecure. In addition to production capacity, we have the ability to have full recirculation, to increase shellfish production, perform research to improve methods and partner with research institutions.
Our state of the art, fully automated, microalgae production system produces up to 1,500 liters of 7 different species of microalgae to feed our shellfish every day.
